Is Your ATV or Watercraft Covered Under Your Homeowners Insurance?

Is Your ATV or Watercraft Covered Under Your Homeowners Insurance?

This is a question we get all the time!  If you own an ATV (4-wheeler, snowmobile, dirt bike, etc.) or watercraft and it is stolen, destroyed in a fire or windstorm, or damaged in an accident it is most likely NOT covered under your homeowner’s policy.  Many people think that if their ATV or watercraft is in their garage it will be covered as contents, but unfortunately this is many times not the case.  If it drives, floats or flies, a rough rule of thumb is that you need a separate policy.

However, items such as a lawnmower which is used to service your property and does not need to be registered, will fall under your homeowner’s insurance coverage.  Keep in mind that limitations can exist depending on the type of loss – for instance, many policies may not offer coverage if the vehicle is damaged while used for business, is taken off premises or overturns.

Your best bet is to call us if you have questions.  That way you will know what needs to be done to make sure you are covered correctly and fully protected.
